Eighteen programs, three sports, five days of games. Harris County's softball team plays five times between Wednesday and Saturday riding a nine-game win streak, Columbus and Hardaway split a three-game crosstown series across softball and football, and Friday's football slate goes on without three teams on a bye. Here's everything on the schedule this week.
No single night carries this week — it's spread out. Volleyball is the busiest sport on the board, with half the area's teams playing in tri-matches or multi-team events rather than standard one-on-one nights, and Tuesday alone has ten area volleyball teams on the floor. Softball has the week's hottest storyline: Harris County is 10-2 with a nine-game winning streak and in first place in its region, and the Tigers play five times in five days — Troup County, Whitewater, Gilmer, Buford and Rockmart — while also fitting in two volleyball matches around it. Columbus and Hardaway face off three times this week between softball and football: a Tuesday softball game, a Thursday softball doubleheader, and a Thursday night football game that has Shaw hosting Columbus instead.
Football is lighter than usual. Calvary Christian, Kendrick and Hardaway are all on a bye, leaving eleven games instead of the usual full slate, and two of those — Shaw vs. Columbus and Spencer vs. Bainbridge — kick off Thursday rather than Friday. The rest of the board plays Friday night, headlined locally by a rivalry rematch between Chattahoochee County and Jordan.
